Secret Wars 2099 #1

Secret Wars 2099 #1

Written by: Peter David

Cover by: Dave Rapoza

Released: May 27, 2015

The same creative team bringing SPIDER-MAN 2099 out every month now tackles the much larger, yet somehow smaller, Battleworld sector that seems stuck in the future. Right off the bat Peter David does a fantastic job of establishing that, while this is the ultra-neon world of 2099 ripped straight from comics of the 90s, there’s been plenty of progress made in terms of characters and storytelling. David introduces the team rapid-fire, giving at least a decent idea of who everyone is and what their role is, as well as showcasing their unique personalities and powers, but Hercules and Captain America get most of the focus of this issue with Black Widow clocking in at a close second, and right off the bat, David masterfully sets up conflicts both internally and externally involving all of them. This is a far, far more character driven book than might have been expected, and that’s a very good thing as it’s easily one of Peter David’s strongest suits.

Will Sliney provides the linework, making Nueva York look as sleek and shiny as ever with some very subtle, very thin actual lines. But making the character outlines thin helps reinforce the notion that everything in this land is slick and fluid, a city that never stands still for a second and a future that never closes its eyes. The colors, from the duo of Antonio Fabela and Andres Mossa help with that feeling immensely, making everything neon and bright, while not overwhelming the sense too much or ever having it be too chaotic and discordant. In all I would rate this issue a 7/10 that’s all for this issue and as always keep on marveling.

Ultima End (Secret Wars) #1

Ultimate End (Secret Wars) #1

Written by: Brian Michael Bendis

Art by: Mark Bagley

Cover by: Mark Bagley

Released: May 20, 2015

The story picks up in Manhattan. Both Manhattans. Simultaneously. You see, the Manhattans of both the Marvel and Ultimate Marvel universes now exist in the same location. There are two Baxter Buildings for instance

Much of this issue deals with the heroes of the two universes convening to discuss this predicament. How did this happen and where do they go from here? The first issue of Ultimate End is a talky issue, but at this point, would anyone expect anything less from a Bendis-written Ultimate story?

The dialogue is sharp in the writer’s traditional manner. He is so good at setting a scene and giving a sense of world through the way his characters interact. Impressively, most characters sound different from their alternate-reality double. Ultimate Tony Stark is cockier and brasher than 616-Tony Stark. That sort of differentiation holds true for most characters, save a couple lines from Spider-Man that sound like they were ripped from the mouth of his teenage counterpart. In all I would rate this issue an 8/10 that’s all for this issue and as always keep on marveling.

Hulk #4

Hulk #4

Written by: Mark Waid

Released: June 11, 2014

It’s clear Hulk is outclassed by this new version of his longtime foe, the Abomination, but when his friends are in danger, you can bet the titan will rise to the occasion to take on any obstacle. Mark Waid hit us with an exciting cliffhanger in the last issue and I’m happy to report it’s given a fairly awesome follow-up. Mark Bagley(pencils), Andrew Hennessy (inks), and Jason Keith (colors) create a splash page that’s sure to make most Hulk fans cheer — I know I sure did. It’s a great compliment to the last issue’s final page, and the rest of the madness and destruction is where this visual team really shines. They do a proper job letting us know how vicious and chaotic a fight between these characters should be.

The panels are never laid out in a creative way, but the fight never feels static and flows well from hit to hit. It’s impactful and downright brutal in a few moments. Truthfully, there’s some panels which feel a little rushed compared to the rest (mostly when there’s several characters involved in a mid-shot), but the visuals are consistent for the most part and I’m an especially big fan of how the hero in San Francisco is brought to life. In all I would rate this issue an 8/10 that’s all for this issue and as always keep on marveling.

New Avengers Ultron Forever #1

New Avengers Ultron Forever #1

Released: April 29, 2015

Doom has assembled the strongest Avengers from different moments in time to fight Ultron, but he also has his own team of Avengers, complicating their task. The team from the past consists of The Hulk (yes!), Thor (ultra yes!) and Iron Man (Rhodey, not Tony). The team from the present includes Black Widow and The Vision, and finally we have the team from the future, Thor and Captain America (Danielle Cage).

The mixture of past, present and future works very well, although sometimes it may be a little hard to follow. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of Doom and seeing his reactions to the events, (and that ending, wow.) Ultron is a very interesting character and I love reading more about him, especially seeing how he’s represented in this series. He seems quite different to the new Avengers film (which you need to go see if you haven’t yet) and the contrast is quite intriguing. I love the combination of his power and uncaring personality, and even though he’s not the most likeable character, it just makes the story better as you want to see if he will be defeated by the Avengers. In all I would rate this issue a 8/10 that’s all for this issue and as always keep on marveling.

Avengers #44

Avengers #44

Written by: Jonathen Hickman

Art by: Mike Deodato Jr.

Cover by: Dustin Weaver

Released:

While New Avengers #33 wasn’t much of a series finale, The Avengers #44 is more ambitious and all-encompassing when it comes to wrapping up Jonathan Hickman’s long stint on these two titles. It’s an epic way to cap off the book and pave the way for Secret Wars #1.

Hickman divides his attention among several plot threads in this final issue, including the intergalactic assault on Earth, the fate of Namor’s Cabal in the Ultimate Universe, and the Avengers’ desperate efforts to build an ark and allow some remnant of humanity to survive the end of existence. A lot of great character moments crop up throughout as Hickman mines the drama and sense of impending doom to full effect. One standout moment involves Black Panther’s meeting with the Obama administration, highlighting the futility of humanity’s plight and T’Challa’s own disillusionment with a world that doomed his nation to death. Another involves Thanos reflecting on heroes of Earth-616. There’s a real sense of begrudging respect for these men and women who have defied his will repeatedly and lived to tell about it. These moments and others serve as proof that Hickman isn’t allowing the plot to overwhelm characterization even at this late hour. In all I would rate this issue a 8.5/10 that’s all for this issue and as always keep on marveling.

Avengers: Operation Hydra #1

Avengers: Operation Hydra #1

Written by: Will Corona Pilgrim

Art by: Andrea DiVito

Cover by: Michael Ryan

Released: April 22, 2015

This issue was just spectacular. In this issue we have the avengers team up Ince again to defeat a commen for. Yes you guessed it Hydra. Black Wido followed some hydra agents and found out that they have been making weapons from the chatari aliens. Hawkeye on the other hand is struggling to come up with a reason to why he should be part of the avengers, after all he doesn’t have powers like the rest of them. In the end he he does find out the reason.

This issue was put together very well. I loved this issue a lot and the artwork is just phenomenal, I really digged it. In this issue we also se a deferent costum for hawkeye I actually liked it, I didn’t mind it at all. What I really liked about this issue is that we get to see some commen conflicts that the heroes face and when I say “commen” I mean problems that a regular civilian would have I thought that was pretty neat. In all I would rate this issue a 8.5/10 that’s all for this issue  and as always keep on marveling.

Released: June 20, 2007

In this issue we see the battle between the Hulk and Iron man through Iron Mans perspective. It’s actually kinda cool to see what Iron Man was thinking during the fight and before the fight. We also see that Iron Mans space defence was nothing for the hulk. This issue was ok the artwork was nice and in all I would rate it a 7/10 that’s all for this issue and as always keep on marveling.

Released: June 13, 2007

During the event of civil war the Hulk was shot into space with the help of Iron Man, Black Blot, Docter Strange, and Mr Fantasic, Hulk landed in a planet named skarr. He lived there peacefully with his wife intel they destroyed it as well. Now he’s coming home and he’s bringing Hell with him. This double sized issue was really good for a first issue. In this issue we see hulk kinda fight Black Bolt. He deafts him, we actually don’t get to see how but none the less of that he goes to earth and starts fighting Iron Man. Everything was going good for Iron Man he was wining intel he got the Hulk really mad and that’s when hulk starts wining.

This was a great issue put they her very well. The art work by Romita was excellent as well. I would rate this issue a 8.5/10 that’s all for this issue and as always keep on marveling.
