It’s been a big day for Marvel news already, and now things are just getting bigger — literally. The studio has announced that Joe and Anthony Russo will shoot the two-part Avengers: Infinity War entirely on IMAX andI ARRI’s newly developed 2D digital camera. This marks the first time a studio film has been shot exclusively in the IMAX format.
“The intent with the Infinity War films is to bring ten years of accumulative storytelling to an incredible climax,” the Russos said in a press release. “We felt that the best way to exploit the scale and scope required to close out the final chapter of these three phases, was to be the first films shot entirely on the IMAX/ARRI Digital camera.” They’ll test out the equipment on select scenes for Captain America: Civil War, the next big blockbuster that just revealed its massive cast and MCU-changing synopsis.
